Spending the weeekend at a 400 year old stately home in the country, as you do in England 😉 Just @baronvonmonk and me - can’t remember the last time we we had this much time alone! Got home Monday from a quick weekend away in Mallorca to find all of our belongings (except for two of our Eames Eiffel chairs 😭) had arrived safe and sound from their three month journey across the world. I had every intention on waiting until Tuesday morning to unpack - but threw that plan out the window and spent all night digging through boxes and pulling out all of my treasures. By mid-day Tuesday I had full unpacked, put away, and placed everything in our little Harrogate flat. And then a wave of sadness hit me. I can’t explain it. I’ve been waiting for everything to arrive for so long and thought it would bring me so much joy but I had a moment where everything became very real and I wasn’t 100% sure how I felt about it. That’s the weird thing about emotions... you can’t anticipate them and despite your best efforts, you can’t control them either. I had a good sleep (until about 2:30am when both kids woke up 🙄) and woke up today feeling a bit better. Time to start settling in and getting life back on track - whatever that means. #realtalk
Texture Color #inspirationiseverywhere Nipped away for a girls weekend in the Balearics. Rough, I know. Exploring has been put on the back burner in favor of relaxation. Dont get me wrong, we are getting after it - but I’m not doing my usual search for architecture inspiration and interior stores. Dancing around the kitchen until 2am, soaking up some winter sun, chewing through my new book, and swimming in the (pretty cold) Mediterranean Sea. It’s been quite nice. 😎
It’s amazing what a couple of vintage pillows can do for your mood. It’s been hard to feel settled with none of our actual ‘stuff’ but these little touches definitely help. Rumor has it a truck is picking up our furniture and boxes from Liverpool today and making their way to Yorkshire in the very near future. It’s been 12 weeks since the shipment was picked up in California. 12 GD weeks. The only good thing about the wait is I am actually excited to unpack! To have a full set of forks! A full size frying pan! All of my sheepskins 😂! Dining chairs! I mean, Christmas is going to have a big act to follow. #gimmemystuff #internationalmove #modernvictorian

Travel was the number one reason for our move. And even though traveling with two small kids is far from glamorous or relaxing, I am so grateful we get to show our little ones the world. Our first adveture since moving has brought us to Porto, Portugal. The old part of the city is littered with beautiful façades sporting broken windows and crumbling walls. Dilapidated buildings next to ones that appear to have been painstakingly restored. The contrast is beautiful. Signs of progress with reminders of the past. The tiles that clad most of the cuties buildings are fantastic, not a white 3x6 to be found. The unapologetic mix of colors and textures somehow works flawlessly and creates such a vibrant energy. We have two more days in the city before we head out to the Douro Valley for a slightly more relaxing end to the trip.... and for the wine, of course.
