Design My Entryway, Please.
One of the amazing things about being a designer is getting to see your ideas come to life. It still amazes me when, after months of work, it's all finished and you get to step back and say "that is exactly how I pictured it!". Then you get to move on and dream up something else for somewhere else. You get to see all of these ideas come to life but you then don't look at them and analyze them every day... like you would in your own home.
Which brings me to a very important issue: design paralysis. I suffer from this condition when it comes to my own home. I have 1,237 ideas for any given space and choosing only ONE to live with FOREVER (okay, a couple years... we all know I will change it eventually) feels like choosing between my kids (exaggeration, obv).
So the talented and hilarious Emily Henderson is designing her Mountain Home with the help of her readers and that got me thinking.... maybe I should just let you decide! I mean, I don't have hundreds of thousands of followers and blog subscribers but I know you guys have opinions and I like to hear them!
You enter on the ground floor of our house but we live upstairs. The entryway, my office, and a small bathroom are all that exist on this level. Entryways are the first impression of your home and everyone knows- first impressions are important! We have a great big closet to house our crap on one side of the staircase and a cute little under-stair nook on the other side that used to have a desk until I got serious about a home office and took over the ground floor living room.
The only major work I did when we bought this house was to re-tile this floor of the house. The original tile was new but really generic looking and, well, first impressions! SO prior to our move in date I had the 500sq ft of beige tile ripped up and replaced with a gorgeous oversized porcelain plank that looks like ebonized wood. This contrasts so well with the light oak flooring throughout the rest of the house and makes me so happy everytime I walk in the door.

Of course there are lots of things I would change (that railing... the heating vent... the stair risers) but for now, this space is staying the way it is. SO the next thing on the agenda: decorate!
I have already ordered new sconces for the stairwell - a custom version of these in black with brass screw covers:
I have toyed with a couple ideas:
1. a bench - somewhere to sit and put on shoes or wait for my husband who is perpetually 15 minutes late!
2. vintage secretary desk - little bit of storage, mail drop and bill pay station. Plus, I love any excuse to go antiquing!
3. storage cabinet - classic entryway credenza situation. could house weather gear or mail or books or.... okay, you get the point.
These ALL work for me. I love each idea equally so that is why I need YOU to help me make up my damn mind! Check out some options below and let me know your thoughts but more importantly, you pick!
Really hard to even just choose a bench because I have been sourcing a lot of benches lately and I love them ALL - so here are two! Also, this gives me an excuse to buy more PILLOWS! Woohoo!

Needs a lil something over the bench but you get the idea. I linked some art and objects I considered below.
I love this but not sure I can convince my husband of the rattan!

VINTAGE SECRETARY DESK
Storage and a great place to drop mail. Midcentury goes really well with our home.

Classic entryway look, leaning artwork for color and a lamp because.

So that's it, folks. Easy right? You MUST have a favorite. And please excuse my crappy photoshop skills, someday I will get a 3D rendering service to whip these up but for now....
